Last week the Double R intern team took to the streets to cover the Occupy DC rally at Freedom Plaza. Tons of people protested against economics, politics and war. They demanded jobs and fought against cuts to services. I was impressed by how many people were there.
I had fun because it was our first video shoot by ourselves, so we had to coordinate everything before and during our adventure. We wrote the script, set up the camera on location and of course shot and edited the story. I did a little of everything: I took some pictures of the production, conducted some interviews and operated the camera. I felt I was being a part of D.C., part of what really happens here.
Because it was so crowded we decided not to use the tripod: wrong! Some of our shots were shaky as a result.
I learned that most of the time the tripod should be used. Cameras are sensitive to movements from your hands and legs while shooting; a tripod avoids that kind of troubles and helps to stabilize the scene. Use it!
